How we rate UK online casinos
Every casino we list is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission and has been tested with real money by a reviewer in the UK. Here is exactly what we check and how the score is weighted.
Who gets listed
Only casinos holding a current UK Gambling Commission licence, which we check on the public register before testing and again before each update: the status must be Active and the casino's exact domain must be listed. Advertising gambling that is not licensed in Great Britain is unlawful, so we never list offshore casinos.
What we test
- Check the licenceAccount number, company name and any regulatory action on the register.
- Sign up and verifyA UK-based reviewer opens an account and completes age and ID checks.
- Deposit, play, withdrawWe read the full bonus terms, play, then time a real withdrawal.
- Test support and toolsWe contact support and set a deposit limit and a time-out.
How the score is weighted
| Criterion | Weight | What we look at |
|---|---|---|
| Licence & safety | 25% | A current UK Gambling Commission licence we have checked on the public register, clear company details, account security and independently tested games. |
| Payouts & banking | 20% | How long our real withdrawal took, fees, limits and the payment methods available in pounds. |
| Bonus fairness | 15% | Wagering multiple, expiry, eligible games and caps — judged on what the offer costs you, not the headline size. |
| Games & RTP info | 15% | Range of games and whether the RTP of each game is easy to find. |
| Safer gambling tools | 15% | Deposit limits, reality checks, time-outs and self-exclusion that are easy to find and quick to use. |
| Support & mobile | 10% | How quickly and how well support answered our test questions, and how the site works on a phone. |
Each criterion is scored from 0 to 5. The overall score is the weighted average, rounded to one decimal place. Casinos on our lists are ordered by that score.
What never changes a score
We earn a commission from some casinos when readers sign up through our links. Commission does not change scores or the order of our lists, and a casino cannot pay to be reviewed. If a casino's terms or our test results change, we update the review and its "last tested" date.
Bonuses: cost, not headline size
A big headline bonus with heavy terms is worth less than a small one you can actually withdraw. We score the wagering multiple, expiry, eligible games and caps, and our wagering calculator shows the expected cost of any offer.
Why safer gambling tools carry 15%
Tools such as deposit limits, reality checks, time-outs and self-exclusion only help if you can find and use them quickly. We test them during every review. Read more on our safer gambling page.
